| Description |
Schools Of Unified Learning (SOUL) was established out of a clearly identified need for innovative ways of educating children, young people and adults. In traditional African heritage we find that often the 'sciences' and the 'arts' are taught through naturally unified cultural heritage expressions such as dance, drama, music creation, agriculture and other disciplined crafts. In looking at African heritage and today's popular methods of education we have founded a practice which preserves the teaching of vital cultural heritage and at the same time compliments and enhances the teaching effectiveness of contemporary western education systems.
Astehmari Batekun, with over ten years of study and practice in the cultural and warrior arts has pioneered the development of a graduated learning system, which seeks to provide the essential framework for student's complete self-development and self-mastery. We call this practice Dankira Tehwagi, which means 'Warrior Dance' and it presents a new and exciting opportunity for developing our overall wellbeing. The practice of Dankira Tehwagi is dynamic, fusing rhythmic warrior arts, ancient African heritage and the study of patterns, the latter brings us gracefully into the study of natural mathematics. Drama, music, dance, good health and self-awareness are at the heart of the practice. Dankira Tehwagi is Pan-African, which means that we study and practice a broad range of warrior dance movements and techniques found within all African cultures and cultures that have been profoundly influenced by Africa's antiquity.
Central to the SOUL Dankira Tehwagi Curriculum is the study of the Tehwagi Asab (the Warrior Idea), which essentially is about the creation of peace and harmony in our environments. The life journey to grasping all of the Tehwagi Asab forms the basis of our graduation system where various degrees of attainment are acknowledged through Tehwagi (Warrior) Titles. |
